There’s something undeniably special about winter in Perth. It doesn’t get bitterly cold like everywhere else, but there’s still a shift - the air crisps up, the days shorten, and we find ourselves drawn back inside. As a designer (and a bit of a homebody at heart), this season is an invitation back into our homes, ourselves and the cozy corners we’ve created. It’s the perfect time to look at your home with fresh eyes and ask: how can this space feel warmer, softer, more like a sanctuary?
This season, we’re leaning into subtle, achievable updates that make a world of difference—whether that’s refreshing a fireplace, rethinking your cabinetry, or creating those little cosy corners you can sink into with a cup of tea.
Here are a few ideas (and glimpses into some of our favourite recent projects) to help inspire your winter home.
A Fireplace Refresh
There’s nothing like the glow of a fire to draw loved ones close and add cozy warmth. As the light dims outside, softer ambient lighting can completely change the mood and energy of your home. If your fireplace is feeling a little tired, consider a facelift - fresh stone cladding, a sleek new mantel, or even reworking the surrounding cabinetry for balance. Our Casablanca project shows how a fireplace can become the soul of a space.
Custom Joinery, Elevated
Winter interiors thrive on a sense of organised chaos and nothing creates that like tailored joinery. When everything has its place (whether it’s books, blankets, board games or your favourite winter candles) your home feels calmer, warmer, and more luxurious.
In our Jacques project, we designed cabinetry that blends storage with beauty, using rich finishes and clean lines to add depth and texture. This kind of built-in detail doesn’t just elevate the look of a home - it makes the everyday rituals of winter (slowing down, gathering, nesting) easier and more enjoyable. This season is perfect for dreaming up your own redesign.
Cozy Corners that Invite a Pause
If winter is the season for slowing down, then every home should have a spot that invites you to linger. A comfortable occasional chair, paired with a soft footstool and a petite side table, creates a personal retreat to sip your morning coffee, or get lost in the world of a good book. These corners don’t just add function; they add feeling. They’re intimate, calming, and easy to create without overhauling your layout. They make moments in your home feel indulgent, rather than dreary.
Leaning into a Moodier Palette
While we often chase light and brightness, winter is the perfect time to embrace a moodier palette. Deep charcoals, earthy browns, layered textures, and strategic lighting can make a home feel cocooned and luxurious, without feeling heavy.
Our Barton project is a beautiful example of this. A poker table made of rich materials, in a room of soft shadows, and pools of warm light creates sultry evening luxury. It proves that leaning into the season, rather than trying to fight it, can result in spaces that feel both sophisticated and deeply comforting.
Small Styling Touches with a Big Impact
Not every update needs to be a renovation. Sometimes, the mood of a space shifts dramatically with just a few styling choices.
Layering tactile textiles - wool throws, linen cushions, a handwoven rug - instantly adds warmth. Sculptural vases, natural timber trays, and soft pools of lamplight can make a space feel intimate without feeling cluttered. With every project we add a few simple touches that can turn a cool, sparse room into a warm, lived-in haven.
What “Curated Comfort” Means to Me
Designing for winter means crafting spaces where warmth, ease, and beauty are always within reach. It’s a curation of thoughtful layers, collected over time - the throw that reminds you of your last holiday, the beautiful dining table passed on through generations chair, the candle scent that feels like home. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, but it should feel intentional. Like every piece has a story.
